Organic Skin Care Product

An organic skin care product is built on a foundation of less is more! Modern commercial personal care products are made with a variety of dangerous chemicals. In fact, it’s impossible for the most brilliant chemist to keep track of all the chemicals that are used in today’s soaps, shampoos and lotions.

It's interesting to note that today's mineral makeup has actually been around a long time. It's what women used before manufacturers started adding chemicals and preservatives to powder so that it would prolong shelf life.

Many companies are able to cover up what they’re using in their cosmetic products by claiming that it’s “proprietary information” and they won’t disclose it for competitive business reasons.

In fact, did you know that the FDA doesn't even require approval of cosmetics before they go on the market? If you have sensitive skin, you should really learn how to protect your skin by knowing what to look for in bad skin products. Here are the most commonly used chemicals to avoid in your personal care products.

Acetone This is a natural substance but it can be very dangerous if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin in large amounts. It’s a strong solvent that’s most commonly found in nail polish remover. Long-term effects indicate it can cause damage to the reproductive system and kidney, liver and nerve damage .

Isopropyl alcohol This is a common ingredient in many personal care products and is used as a topical disinfectant and skin rub. Overuse can cause dermatitis and skin damage; inhaling the fumes can result in dizziness, weakness, fatigue and nausea.

Denatured alcohol Also known as ethyl alcohol. It’s used as a skin disinfectant and for alcohol skin rubs. This alcohol is also found in alcoholic beverages but a noxious substance is added so that people won’t drink it.

Glycol ethers like propylene glycol is found in moisturizers, lotions, perfumes, soaps, shampoos cream rinses, cosmetics, deodorants and toothpaste. It’s also used in antifreeze, brake and hydraulic fluid and as a de-icer. Is that something you want to use on your body? It can cause dermatitis, kidney and liver damage.

Formaldehyde This ingredient is found in shampoos, cosmetics, nail polish and embalming fluids. It’s a known carcinogen.

Triclosan Anywhere you see “anti-microbial”, you’ll most likely find this ingredient. Using it can lead to antibiotic resistance.

Organic Body Products

Interestingly enough, using organic skin care products can be as simple and easy as using food ingredients you would find in anyone’s refrigerator or pantry . Whether you decide to use food as your personal care product in a pinch or as your main skin care regimen is up to your own personal taste. Some common ingredients and their uses:

Organic coconut oil can be used as a moisturizer or to treat inflamed skin due to eczema or other skin irritations.

Plain yogurt is good for acne-prone skin and restores natural acidity to skin.

Lemon juice is a good, natural astringent rinse for oily skin.

Whole milk applied with a cotton ball and then rinsed off with warm water is good for dry skin.

Leftover cooking oil will moisturize your hands.

Avocado residue from the inside of the skin is also a good hand moisturizer.

Egg white on your face that dries and then rinsed off with warm water will keep our skin smooth.

Leftover cooked oatmeal can be used as a cleansing mask.

Vinegar can be used on your hair to restore the natural acid mantle after shampooing and prevent frizziness. On dry skin, you can wash with half vinegar and half soap. Dried vinegar has no scent so you will not smell like it after you shower.

If using food as an organic skin care product is not appealing to you, there are plenty of companies out there that have made natural skin care products in a convenient bottle that you can buy in the store or on the internet. There's only one USDA certified organic skin care product line. If you'd like to know more about it, please fill out the form below and I will send you more information.
