Organic Pet Food Recipes

Organic pet food uses ingredients will help your beloved Fifi or Fido stay healthier, longer.

But, if baking is not your thing, there are lots of brands of organic pet food you can buy in the supermarket or online. Newman's Own, the organic people food maker, just launched their own pet food line.

    Delicious Doggy Biscuits

    2 ¨ö cups whole wheat flour

    1 tsp Brown sugar

    1/2 cups Powdered dry milk

    6 tbsp Meat drippings

    1/2 tsp Salt

    1 beaten egg

    1/2 tsp Garlic powder

    1/2 cup ice water

Preheat oven to 350¡Æ. Lightly oil a cookie sheet. Combine flour, dry milk, salt, garlic powder and sugar together. Cut in the meat drippings until the flour mixture looks like corn meal. Mix in the egg and add enough water so that the mixture forms into a ball. Pat out dough with your fingers onto cookie sheet to half an inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter or knife and remove the scraps. (Scraps can be formed again and baked.) Bake 25-30 minutes and remove from the tray and cool on a rack.

Cheesy Dog Bones

    2 cups unsifted all-purpose flour

    1 1/4 cups shredded cheddar cheese

    2 clove garlic, finely chopped

    1/2 cup vegetable oil

    4 1/2 TB water (up to 5 TB's)

Preheat oven to 400¡Æ. Use a dog bone cookie cutter or make one yourself out of cardboard that¡¯s 4 inches long. Combine the flour, cheese, garlic and vegetable oil in container of food processor. Cover and mix until the consistency of coarse meal. With machine running, slowly add water until the mixture forms a ball. Once it¡¯s mixed, divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll out each piece to 1/2¡È thickness. Cut into dog bone shapes and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. (Do not re-roll the scraps.) Bake in preheated hot oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until bottom of cookies are lightly browned. Carefully transfer baked bones to a wire rack to cool off completely. Refrigerate bones in an airtight container.

Healthy Kitty Chopped Liver & Cheese

    1/3 cup cottage cheese

    2 TB Bisquick

    1 TB Chopped liver

    1 TB Corn oil

    1 dash iodized salt

Mix all together for 1-2 delicious cat servings.

Mackerel Cat Cookies

    1/2 cup canned mackerel, drained

    1 c whole-grain bread crumbs

    1 TB Vegetable oil

    1 Egg, beaten

    1/2 tsp Brewer's yeast, optional

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium-sized bowl, use a fork to mash the mackerel into tiny pieces. Combine the remaining ingredients with the mackerel and mix well. Drop by 1/4 teaspoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet and bake for 8 minutes. Cool until cookies are room temperature and store in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
